The Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology comprise of academic staff with expertise in Medicine and Specialization in Infectious Diseases Management with skills in diverse aspects of Microbiology & Parasitology including the applications of Molecular Biology Techniques. They apply these skills to tackle a wide range of infections either in sporadic or outbreaks, concurrent or emerging/ re-emerging forms. The Department administers the Microbiology & Parasitology as a discipline to undergraduate concentration within the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB; BS) degree. Additionally, the faculty in the department are members of the MB; BS and/ or Medical Microbiology & Parasitology graduate field(s) with expertise in Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology and Parasitology, offering Postgraduate Certificate (PGC), Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees.
The department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research and community development services in the field of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of Infectious Diseases Diagnosis and Surveillance with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of infection control and prevention, train students to be self-reliant in the field of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology, produce students who are adequately prepared for challenge of the contemporary world.
